HEARTBURN

HEARTBURN

The position of the baby may cause stomach acid to back up into the esophagus, leav- ing you with a burning pain in your chest. You may also experience some regurgita- tion of acid into your throat and mouth.

TREATMENT Diet

Recommended Food

Whenever you feel heartburn pain, drink a glass of clean water to flush the gastric acids back down into your stomach.

Eat papaya for its healing qualities, or drink its juice.

Eat small meals throughout the day, instead of three large ones. If your stomach isnt completely full, theres less of a chance that its contents will back up.

Food to Avoid

Some foods are more challenging to digest than others are. If you stay away from fried and greasy foods, spicy foods, and heavy sauces, you may find that your problem resolves itself.

Avoid minty foods, such as peppermint, which can aggravate heartburn.

Allow a few hours between your last meal or snack and bedtime. Youll give your stomach a chance to process its contents before you lie down.

Food allergies are linked to heartburn. If a food causes you trouble, eliminate it from your diet. You may find that your symptoms improve significantly or even dis- appear.
